 Lately, my work has become redundant. Perhaps even derivative of the horror genre. I don't like repeating myself and I feel that my work must have something to say. Without anything to say it's just adding to the noise. In response to that introspection I am starting a new series, focused more on the fantasy genre and beauty. I am convinced this will help me grow as an artist. I am in no way abandoning horror. I will always be a horror artist. But I have painted myself into a corner over the past few years and I must overcome this creative malaise. The only way to do that is to explore possibilities.

JAWS: Peter Benchley's Influence & Regret

The movie Jaws is undisputed as the first “blockbuster” and its reputation, despite dated special FX, is firmly in place, playing all over basic cable and streaming services every summer. When I was a kid my brother and I watched the movie on our tiny little black & white TV that sat on a rickety little stand in between our two beds. We often pretended the floor was the ocean water and jump back and forth trying to avoid the great white shark, waiting down there to eat us whole. I’m sure it drove our mom nuts.  But what makes Peter Benchley’s book mandatory reading?      The novel grew out of Benchley's interest in shark attacks after he learned about the exploits of shark fisherman Frank Mundus in 1964. Doubleday commissioned him to write the novel in 1971, a period when Benchley worked as a freelance journalist.
